Blogs and answers from SimGurus
Tell us more about the Lunar Cycle. Is it customizable?
In The Sims 3 Supernatural we wanted to bring in a new element of gameplay that would affect both ordinary Sims and supernatural Sims. Playing into the theme of magic, mystery and mischief, we thought that a luminous Lunar Cycle could set the stage for some strange happenings that go bump in the night. Of course, none of The Sims games would be complete without the option of customization, so the team created a new tab specific to the Lunar Cycle to allow for more player customization. In The Sims 3 Supernatural you can set your Lunar Cycle to rotate through the different phases of the moon, which can last anywhere from two days to ten days. If you wish, you can even choose to have the moon stay static. For instance, if you wish to have a full moon every night, you can do so by selecting the static option. The same works for any of the other moon phases.

Can regular Sims adopt Supernatural children?
No, Sims will not be able to adopt supernatural children but players will be able to create supernatural children directly from CAS.

Welcome to Moonlight Falls
Some may call this town sleepy and slightly off the map, and tourists may pass through quickly due to the ‘odd’ Sims who call the town home. However, for the residents of Moonlight Falls, their town is unlike any other with its towering falls, foggy hills, and mysteries that lurk around every corner. Moonlight Falls is a scenic escape filled with great places for exploring and hunting. While the natural surroundings of this town are quite beautiful, those seeking a lively setting will find a number of new venues to venture into to meet the locals and research some of the town’s eerie past. Let’s take a quick tour to see what venues await in Moonlight Falls!

The warm homey atmosphere of The Toadstool makes it a great place to unwind. Grab a rocking chair by the fire or take a seat on the upstairs balcony for a perfect people watching location.

For a howling good time, give Varg’s Tavern a try. This old converted warehouse is now deemed the local ‘supernatural hangout’ and a great place to grab a juice or pick a fight.
While the Red Velvet Lounge might not look like much on the outside, this vampire lounge sits on prime real estate near the river, and is known as one of the more posh locales to enjoy some plasma or get down on the dance floor.
Want to practice a little alchemy, pick up a new elixir recipe or buy that rare ingredient? Aleister’s Elixirs and Sundries, named after the historical Alchemist Aleister Krummly, is the one stop shop for all your elixir needs! This is also the place to put your elixirs up for sale if you want to make some cash with your alchemy skill.
Fae Ray Arboretum is a nature-lover’s paradise. Explore the grounds, read a book in the shade of your favorite tree or listen to the calming sounds of the fountains in this beautiful park. Inside the actual Arboretum you can search for fairies, take a tour or even play fairy games. For the competitive gardener, the Arboretum hosts frequent gardening competitions – enter your best produce and possibly win a prize!
For Sims with more intellectual interests, a visit to the Library of Lore & Vault of Antiquity is sure to satisfy even the greatest thirst for knowledge. Sims looking for ‘unique’ information can bypass the library building and head straight to the Vault of Antiquity. Trivia competitions and alchemy classes are just a few of the things to do in this historical location.
Watch the sun set from Moonlight Point or take a walk along La Shove Beach with your werewolf pals to truly appreciate the beauty nature has to offer.
Now that you’ve seen a few of the fun places to visit, let’s meet a couple of the new neighbors! The families in Moonlight Falls are a colorful cast of characters with rich histories and quirky traits.

Two cornerstone families in Moonlight Falls are the Van Goulds and Wolffs. Due to an unclear point in history, both Ayden Van Gould and Pappy Wolff have been attributed to being the Moonlight Falls’ town founder. This has caused an unfortunate feud between the two families, a feud that the younger generations seem determined to overcome.

The three Crumplebottom sisters are very different in both appearance and attitude. Beatrice is the oldest and very set in her grumpy ways. Belinda is as good natured a person as you could ever meet and often fills the role of family peacekeeper. Meanwhile Bianca is a bit of a spitfire and all about flirting her way through life. These witchy siblings can cast some serious magical mojo; that is when they aren’t squabbling over whose turn it is to wash the dishes!
The Goodfellow family is known as the town pranksters. Flora, Pip and Dahlia just love humans (and pulling some major jokes on their unsuspecting neighbors)! The newest addition to the Goodfellow family, little Fawn, may not have her own wings, but her parents think she’s something super special. Who is this mysterious trio of ghosts and their human roommate? Could they have ties to any historical Sims families?
Thanks for taking a little tour of Moonlight Falls with me. We’ve only touched the tip of the iceberg today as there is tons more to see and discover in The Sims 3 Supernatural. We’re excited for you to see it all so check back soon for more details to be shared about the game!

-Brittany Henry, Associate Producer, The Sims 3 Supernatural

We’re back to answer more of your questions and this time, we’ve grouped together all your queries around advanced population options.

As you may have heard, we’re including advanced settings for controlling the population of some of the Sims types in the game, including some of the types introduced in previous expansion packs. With the new settings you’ll be able to control the population growth of: vampires, fairies, werewolves, witches, pets, horses, and celebrities. You can allow your populations to continue to grow as normal (the default) or turn population growth off completely for each of the supported Sim types. However, the control is global and cannot be configured differently for each world or saved game. Of course, you must have the appropriate expansion pack for some types to appear at all.

Check out our responses below and let us know if you still have questions. Also, we’ll be posting more responses to your questions on other topics next week. Stay tuned and keep them coming! It is great to see so many of you excited for The Sims 3 Supernatural and asking so many questions.

Advanced Demographic Options

Q: Will we be able to determine the number of pets in the neighborhood? Mainly unicorns.
Answer – You’ll be able to control whether or not the game populates the world with horses and pets, but not specifically unicorns. Who doesn’t like unicorns?

Q: I would like to know if a zombie population slider will be included with the rest of the sliders? In the chat celebrity sliders and vampire, werewolve, ect. sliders were mentioned, but not zombies! Sorry if this is repetitive

Answer – The population control settings are on/off checkboxes and not sliders. Zombies are not one of the Sim types that you can control from the new settings. If you are interested in having more or less zombies in your world there are other ways that their population can be effected, such as using your Sims to turn other Sims into zombies through the new “brains” interaction. Also look for zombies to appear in the world on a full moon, those zombies will be cured the following morning. Sims can also make elixirs that create or cure zombies, therefore increasing or reducing the amount that you have in the world.

Q: Is it possible to choose different settings for amount-of-occults in every new saved game, or is it just one slider for every game?

Answer – The new population controls affect the game globally just like the other settings in the options menu and are not associated with individual saved games.

Q: So, say that I start a new game in Bridgeport, and I set the vampire population to zero. Will the pre-made vampires stay as vampires? Or will they turn human?

Answer – Vampires that already exist in Bridgeport at the time you un-check the vampire checkbox will remain as vampires in Bridgeport, The existing vampires can still “turn” other Sims however the game will not auto populate new vampires to the world after you un-check the box.

Q: I know that you can control Supernatural Sims and celebrities. But are PAPARAZZI going to be controllable as well, or is that not possible because they will not be part of the playable population?

Answer – You can’t directly control the paparazzi population with the new settings but there are two new options that will allow players to limit the celebrity populations in different ways, and as a result, the paparazzi that are drawn to them will be reduced. One option will allow you to prevent your active household from gaining celebrity status and the other option gives players the ability to control whether or not the game tries to maintain a balance of Sims with celebrity status in the world.

Q: I did watch the video (not live) but would like to know it the population control will be available “without” the EP, via a patch or update? I am not planning on buying the EP but would already like to control vamp and celeb populations I already have.

Answer – The new settings will be available in the options menu if you have one of the expansion packs installed that includes one or more of the specific Sims types that are supported. The new settings will be released through a Game Update that will go out with the launch of The Sims 3 Supernatural.

1. Can pets be supernaturals?
Zombie dogs or fairy kittens could make for a whole game itself! In The Sims 3 Supernatural, pets that you’ve created using The Sims 3 Pets will not take on supernatural abilities. However, witches that own a cat or one of the other “small animals” will gain special benefits such as having an increased skill with the wand, having an increased mood and having a slower drain on magic.

2. Can pets turn into zombies?
No, pets do not turn into zombies.

3. What’s new for ordinary Sims?
There are lots of new things for ordinary Sims to discover in The Sims 3 Supernatural. For instance, there are new traits to choose from such as ‘Supernatural Skeptic’ or ‘Supernatural Fan’ which will sway your Sims one way or another to either get along with supernatural Sims or want to steer clear of them. These traits create humorous new storylines that are fun to watch as your Sims fully embrace the unknown or try to ward them off.

In addition, ordinary Sims will have new interactions to choose from. Two of my favorites are ‘Ask to Protect’ or ‘Promise to Protect’ which allows Sims to lean on their fellow neighbors in case of an unwanted encounter with a supernatural Sim. I find these interactions fun additions to the game that enable you to create more dynamic relationships and tell more intriguing stories.

We have tons of new CAS clothing, build/buy objects and specialty items that can all be enjoyed by ordinary Sims. Sims can build their experience in alchemy by brewing a range of elixirs that have numerous effects. Ordinary Sims can also venture into a new career as a fortune teller or take a visit to the Traveler’s Wagon to have their fortune read.

Additionally ordinary Sims will live in the new town of Moonlight Falls with a rich landscape, mysterious new venues and a surprising new Lunar Cycle that will cause a stir in town and have strange effects on ordinary Sims with the onset of the full moon.

4. Can supernatural Sims have babies? If so, what will it be?
Your supernatural Sims are certainly able to create children! Whether it’s a relationship between two of the same supernatural Sims, two differing supernatural Sims or a supernatural Sim and an ordinary Sim, they will be able to start a family and have a baby.

The genetic system in The Sims 3 Supernatural works the same way as in The Sims 3 base game. The offspring of two of the same supernatural Sims will have a very high chance of inheriting the looks and traits of that supernatural type. The offspring of two differing supernatural Sims will have a chance of taking on the looks and abilities from one side of the family. The same goes for the offspring of supernatural Sims and ordinary Sims. The offspring will either have the looks and traits of the supernatural parent or of the ordinary parent.

All the above possibilities introduce new and compelling storylines to experience, making things around home a bit more mystical!

1. What is The Sims 3 Supernatural all about?
Kari: The Sims 3 Supernatural allows you to create supernatural beings from menacing werewolves and powerful witches to mischievous fairies and vampires with intriguing new characteristics. These supernatural Sims have magical abilities, rare traits and new interactions that enhance gameplay and introduce creative new storylines. Embrace the supernatural in the all-new world of Moonlight Falls, where you can stalk the night, use your wand to cast spells and uncover the spooky surprises that lurk in the shadows. Both supernatural and ordinary Sims can build their skill as an alchemist and mix dozens of elixirs with a variety of powerful effects, then share these enchanted brews with any friends who have The Sims 3.

2. Can I create supernatural Sims directly in Create A Sim?
Kari: For the first time, you can create supernatural beings directly in Create A Sim and play as those witches, werewolves, vampires and fairies from the very beginning of your game. There is a remarkable degree of customization involved in creating your supernatural Sims, from the hairiness of your werewolf to the shape of your fairy’s wings.

3. What new traits and abilities are available in this expansion?
Kari: The Sims 3 Supernatural introduces many new traits, abilities and skills. Some of our favorites include delayed aging for fairies and vampires and the lycanthropy skill for werewolves, which enables them to transform between human and werewolf forms at will, so long as they can control their animalistic instincts. There are also some funny and interesting new traits, such as “supernatural fan” and “supernatural skeptic,” both of which affect how Sims interact with the supernatural.

4. Will there be a new world in this expansion?
Kari: The Sims 3 Supernatural introduces the all-new world of Moonlight Falls, a shadowy town full of peculiar happenings and mysterious new objects. Inspired by the misty valleys of the Pacific Northwest, Moonlight Falls is a brand new backdrop for The Sims 3 full of secret revelations and mystical locations for your Sims to explore, play in and build on.

5. What new gameplay features, items and wishes have been added?
Kari: One of the new features we’re most excited about is the lunar cycle and its effects on Sims in The Sims 3 Supernatural. Players will notice strange happenings, enchanted transformations and effects on magical potency as the moon changes its phases. You can also customize the lunar cycle in order to control its duration.

In terms of new items, we always try to add some fun new objects for Sims to play with. We’ve had a lot of fun conceptualizing and building out mysterious items that we’re adding to this pack, including a sliding bookcase that conceals a hidden room and a magic broom that allows your Sims to fly through the air! A variety of new décor items and clothing are available for you to deck out your Sims and their homes in gothic style, fitting with the eerie look of Moonlight Falls.

The Sims 3 Supernatural also introduces new lifetime wishes. For instance, witches may wish to become a master of dark magic or a master of light magic, depending on whether they cast curses or charms. Fairies may wish to become the ultimate trickster and werewolves may wish to rise to be the leader of the pack.

6. Will there be new careers?
Kari: Yes! Sims can build a career as a fortune teller in The Sims 3 Supernatural. Within this career, Sims can opt to be a mystic with a genuine connection to the great beyond or choose to exploit their clients as a scam artist, selling out psychic conventions and giving bogus readings.

7. Do I have to play as a supernatural? Can I play as a normal Sim?
Kari: You have the option to play as a supernatural or as an ordinary Sim living in the eerie new world of Moonlight Falls. However you choose to play, you can opt to dabble in magical crafts, building your career as a mystic fortune teller or developing your alchemic skills to brew elixirs with potent effects. Elixirs give you the power to turn other Sims into zombies, boost your learning abilities to acquire skills faster and more.

8. Does this expansion pack come with any limited edition content?
Kari: Yes, we’re excited to be working with Popcap’s Plants vs. Zombies to bring exclusive limited edition content to those who pre-order The Sims 3 Supernatural . The special limited edition Plants vs. Zombies content pack features the famous peashooter from Plants vs. Zombies that will help to protect your Sims by warding off any brain-hungry zombies who happen to shuffle onto your lot. The limited edition content pack will also include iconic zombie-themed clothing items from Plants vs. Zombies.

The Sims 3 Supernatural – ‘Welcome to Moonlight Falls’
Hello Simmers! My name is Kari St. John and I am the Senior Producer on The Sims 3 Supernatural Expansion Pack. I’m really excited about today’s announcement, and I want to share with you a sneak-peek of what to expect in next expansion from The Sims 3. First off, we’ve introduced an all-new world called Moonlight Falls – home to some very unsuspecting Sims. This is no ordinary town, as you’ll soon find out. The inhabitants all possess unique and magical characteristics that set them apart from their ordinary Sim neighbors. For the first time in Create A Sim, you can create werewolves, fairies, witches and more intriguing vampires that each harbor special abilities and rare traits. In addition to introducing Moonlight Falls and a variety of new supernatural Sims, The Sims 3 Supernatural brings new lots for Sims to explore, new objects for Sims to interact with, a fortune-teller career, new skills and so much more.

The Sims 3 Supernatural taps into the darker and eerier side of The Sims while maintaining its core principles and zany humor. We are always interested in the feedback and requests that come from the community, so when we first set out to create this pack, our team spent time digging through the forums and reaching out to Sims players with specific questions to help us understand the themes, content and features that interest our fans. We chose “supernatural life” as our inspiration because it is a visually rich and diverse fiction, enabling us to create unique types of supernatural Sims as well as some outstanding content from the original The Sims. Bringing the Sims into this world is very exciting because so many great stories have been told based on the lore of magical worlds and the mysterious characters that live in them – as well as the characters that don’t.

We’ll be rolling out more information about the new content and features soon, but first I’d like to mention a few of the new things that I am having a lot of fun playing with as we test the game. I am really enjoying creating new types of Sims in Create A Sim, using the new customization options and selecting from the new clothing styles. In The Sims 3 Supernatural, I am able to create Sims that can be any of the supernaturals: modern or classic versions of witches, werewolves, fairies and vampires. It’s easy to come up with some really wild families and households. I personally like to create a werewolf Sim in Create A Sim and what’s really cool is creating supernatural children. For example, I created a little werewolf child, who is not only really cute, but loves to howl, scratch and practice hunting when no one is looking. And there are several all-new traits that make life rich and interesting, such as the new trait of “Supernatural Skeptic.” Sims who possess this trait dislike anything that has to do with the supernatural. They prefer things that aren’t too different from their current understanding and will go to great lengths to let supernatural Sims know how they feel.

Once I’m in the game as a werewolf, one of my favorite things to do is send him out to hunt for rare collectables that can be used as ingredients to create powerful elixirs, which are also new in The Sims 3 Supernatural. I have a tendency to go straight for the zombification elixir once I have all the required ingredients so that I can transform James Hoppcraft, my “Supernatural Skeptic” neighbor, into one of the living dead for a while. One of these days, he’ll learn not be so judgmental! There are several fun secrets to discover in The Sims 3 Supernatural. One of my favorite secrets will be familiar to players of the original The Sims, but I won’t spoil things and reveal what this is yet.

In this expansion, Sims will explore a fresh new world in Moonlight Falls, where the mysterious and sometimes dangerous inhabitants will feel right at home. Of course, what eerie world would be complete without a full moon to make the evenings interesting? One of the first things I buy for my Sims’ house is the new moon dial object, because keeping track of the lunar cycle is important, especially if one of your werewolf Sims happens to be on a date. After all, transforming into a hairy beast under a full moon during a date is not ideal for making romance blossom (unless, of course, your date is also a werewolf). There are a host of new supernatural Sims that live in Moonlight Falls, some with amazing powers and potent elixirs that can either simplify or complicate life (in interesting ways, of course!) for your Sims. Help your supernatural Sims develop their “special” abilities or let your ordinary Sims find out what it takes to live among their mysterious neighbors. No matter how you like to play, there will be fun, exciting, romantic and even dangerous stories to tell, as well as new achievements and hidden secrets to be revealed.

This is just the first of several posts that we’ll be making before we launch The Sims 3 Supernatural. Check back in the coming weeks for new blogs, live producer broadcasts and sneak-peeks of the game.

Thanks,
Kari

I have to admit, it can be pretty fun to be out at lunch with non-game developer friends and say, “I have to get back. I’ve got a werewolf pack behavior meeting.” You get lots of shaking heads and comments along the lines of, “How does that job even exist?” Well, the job title werewolf Producer does exist, at least at Maxis, and even though it’s not always about determining how werewolves and vampires should interactor what happens when a werewolf mates with a fairy, it’s still a sweet gig.

We determined early on that you can’t have The Sims 3 Supernatural Expansion Pack without werewolves. Once that decision was made, the long debate began on what our werewolves should look like. When in werewolf form, should they walk on two legs or four? Should they be more humanoid or beastly? That kind of stuff. Although you’ll have to play the game to fully get to know The Sims 3 werewolf, I’ll try to give you a good idea of what to expect.

The overriding fiction that Andy Busche our werewolf Designer (yep, that’s a real job too) came up with goes something like this:

The werewolf Sim is the embodiment of strength and unbridled emotion. These supernatural creatures constantly try to balance living a relatively normal life, with the effects of the werewolf’s curse; which allows them to change form, from Sim to humanoid wolf-beast. Though werewolves can be fearsome creatures, they do have a tender spot for love and possess a great sense of honor. It is this same sense of honor that restrains them from spreading the werewolf curse recklessly. Instead they choose to live in tight-knit packs and take the utmost care in selecting who may join their number.

While that gives you some idea of what to expect from the werewolves in The Sims 3 Supernatural, you’re probably saying to yourself, “Okay, that sounds cool, but what exactly will I be able to do as a werewolf?” First off, just like all our other supernaturals (vampire, witch, fairy, etc.), you’ll be able to create werewolf Sims directly in Create a Sim. You’ll create your human form, as you normally would, and you’ll also have the ability to create your werewolf form, body hair and all!

Once in game, you’ll have the ability to transform into a werewolf right from the get go. While in werewolf form, you’ll have many new interactions available to perform with normal human Sims and vice versa. There are also many new werewolf interactions that are specific to other werewolves and to the other supernaturals. You know you always wanted the ability to inappropriately sniff Sims and maybe show those werewolf teeth to a vampire.

Although your werewolf can transform at will, there will be times were the wolf’s feral natural will take over and your transformation will be unavoidable. Of course this could happen at the worst times. Say your werewolf Sim is on a date and their mood becomes too low. Let’s see how your potential love interest responds to a sudden transformation at the bar. The new lunar cycle will also have an effect on your werewolf Sims. When the full moon rises in the night sky, there will be no stopping the feral beast within.

Over time, as your werewolf Sim becomes more comfortable with their primal nature, they’ll develop more control over their lycanthropy. They’ll be better able to control untimely forced transformations. They’ll also become more adept at hunting, whether alone or in packs. The werewolf’s ability to hunt for specific collectables could come in handy for the new alchemy skill, where certain recipes will require very specific and potentially rare ingredients.

Hopefully, I’ve been able to give you a sneak peek into The Sims 3 Supernatural werewolf. Of course, there’s much more to being a werewolf in the game than what I’ve described here, but I’m sure it will be much more fun to discover it for yourself, once you’re playing the game in September.

-Jon Leslie, Producer

1 – Do Vampires still have to ask “permission” to bite someone? (Since Zombies now get to do so freely…)
Answer – Yes, the Vampires will still need to ask permission before they bite someone, but players can create a special elixir that will provide an alternate path to turning a Sim into a vampire.

2 – Will the Lunar Cycle/fog work in other worlds besides Moonlight Shores?
Answer – The lunar cycle from Supernatural will work in other worlds but the atmosphere (including fog) is unique to Moonlight Falls.

3 – Will vampires from Late Night be retconned or will there be two varieties of vampires for those who have both expansion packs?
Answer – The vampires are the same Sim type as the ones in Late Night with additional visual options and new ways to intimidate, so you won’t see two varieties in your game if you already own Late Night. And of course a big difference is that you can now just create vampires and change the way they look right from the start in Create A Sim.

4 – How much QC is being done on this prior to release? Paying customers deserve product which actually works.
Answer – We know that quality and stability are things that are important to The Sims 3 players and these things are very important to us as well. With each product we release, we put a large amount of time and resources into testing all areas of the game experience, including testing with all combinations of previous releases and a very numerous set of system configurations. As a matter of fact, The Sims 3 Supernatural is currently going through a process which requires the game to pass through several gates that occur over the course of several months including internal review from multiple teams of dedicated QA testers and critical review and approval from independent EA certification teams. After the game is released, we have additional quality and customer support available through the EA Help Center for players who have questions or who experience a problem with their game. We are going to great lengths to ensure everyone has the best possible experience playing The Sims 3 Supernatural.

5 – The OP mentioned controlling celebs and supernatural populations: How would this apply to our Late Night celebrities? Will players be able to remove celebrity status from their existing celebrity sims?
Answer – See related answer associated with question #19

6 – What will the lunar cycle do to normal Sims?
Answer – On the full moon there is a chance a Sim may get the Lunacy Buff, which will cause them to act slightly odd and perhaps perform a Lunatic Slap or Lunatic Embrace with another Sim, or they just might Freak Out. We’ll have more details surrounding the lunar cycle in the coming weeks to tell you all about!

7 – Can ghosts be created in CAS AND by magic?
Answer – Yes, you can create ghosts in CAS AND pick their death type. Plus, we have 3 new ways for Sims to die in The Sims 3 Supernatural. More details will come later, but what I can tell you know is that deaths are caused my magic, alchemy, and one of the new objects.

8 – Can we make Sims in ANY color? Orange Sims? Yellow Sims? Purple Sims? Grey Sims?
Answer – Well, maybe not “any” color, but players will be able to make Sims in just about every color of the rainbow. We have tried to provide a very diverse pallet to the skin tones in The Sims 3 Supernatural so you could create a wide variety of supernatural Sims, including the more extreme looks that people have in their imaginations.

9 – Will there be a potion’s or spell’s a normal Sim can buy from witches to get a promotion, fall in love, or make money?
Answer – Each of these 3 things can be accomplished with Magic of one sort or another, we’ll be addressing more about these details in future live broadcasts and in developer blogs.

10 – Will traits effect the actions of Supernatural Sims, like evil Sims more likely attack/hex/curse unsuspecting Sims?
Answer – Yes, we made it a point to support the good and evil traits in wishes and autonomous behavior to let players better tell stories of good and evil witches and fairies.

11 – Will witches only be able to use spells with the alignment, and turn green and/or bubbly once they reached the top skill level like in TS2?
Answer – While some spells are more good or evil than others, Casting them will not affect your Sim’s appearance. The Sims 3 witches are based more on current pop-culture witches like Harry Potter than on Wizard of Oz (as was the case for Sims2) Since you can make your witch in CAS and specify what they look like, we decided not to affect appearance by the spells you choose to cast. Spells do come in a variety and some lean toward good or evil – but sometimes even good witches need to cast a curse!

12 – Will dragons make a return?
Answer – There are no dragons in The Sims 3 Supernatural, but be assured there are plenty of other fun surprises in store.

13 – Are there any new toddler objects (CAS included)?
Answer – Yes, new objects that toddlers can use are the supernatural teddy bears, train set, fairy houses, and the new versions of the toy box and dollhouse. No new options in CAS for Toddlers however.

14 – Is there any creature-exclusive hairstyles or clothing?
Answer – We have tried to leave the clothing and hairstyles open to everyone to encourage more creative exploration, but our several of our clothing options are inspired by and tailored to specific supernatural types – torn clothing for werewolves, magical hats for witches, nature-inspired clothes for fairies, and “creature of the night” inspired clothes for vampires.

15 – Are more voices being added? (The fairy voice sounded new)
Answer – No, we didn’t add any new voice types to Supernatural.

16 – Are there more baby interactions? (Besides rocking chair)
Answer – Outside of the rocking chair, there are no other new baby interactions.

17 – Is the Moonlight Falls average Sim richer than usual? (e.g. Bridgeport Sims being the richest on average )
Answer – The Sims in Moonlight Falls have the roughly the same average amount of simoleons that you would see in other expansion packs. Vampires do tend to have more simoleons then werewolves, but every Sim in Moonlight Falls is rich with character.

18 – Will the genie Sims from Showtime be either curable or compatible with the new SN-creatures?
Answer – All current supernatural Sims and special creature Sims will be “curable” with the Potent Cure Elixir except for the following: Unicorn, Imaginary Friend, and Ghost.

19 – When having for example 6 werewolves in a neighborhood in your active household, would you then in the slider options draw it down to “max number of werewolves = 0”, will those 6 werewolf Sims vanish completely into thin air, or will they just get rid of the werewolfness, and the same with all the other now controllable “life states”?
Answer – The new population control settings use checkboxes and not sliders. There has been some confusion over the new “Population Control Settings” that will appear in the option panel so let me explain this in a bit more detail.

Each Sims 3 town is setup to support story progression; this allows neighbors to move in, get married, promoted and advance in life. The game is basically working behind the scenes to keep the world balanced, alive and interesting over longer periods of time. This system also helps determine if there are too many or too few of a particular type of Sim and tries to keep it at an ideal population. The new population control settings allow players to turn this system on or off.

For example, if a player leaves the checkbox selected (the default), then they are choosing to have the game populate the world to its ideal setting for that particular Sim type. When the checkbox is empty, the game will do nothing to adjust the population of that Sim Type. Sims may still have supernatural babies, or may die, but the game will not go out of its way to maintain an ideal population for that Sim type. Note – If there are already werewolves in your world and you uncheck that Sim Type in the Population Control Settings, the existing werewolves will not be removed. If you would like a world free of werewolves, then you would need to make sure the checkbox is empty before any werewolves show up in your world.

There are also a few other fun ways that you can create and cure Sims in-game of the different supernatural types, stay tuned for more insights.

20 – How much will the trait system affect each occult type, for instance: Werewolves are already ill tempered (Read somewhere) so would one with the “Hot Headed” trait be twice as likely to “Make a Scene”? Also, in the case of Vegan Zombies, or whichever occult life-state, How in-depth in the trait/personality system at effecting Supernatural behavior?
Answer – Traits can affect the autonomous behavior of our new supernatural types and the wishes they will receive. For instance, werewolves with the Neat trait generally wouldn’t scrounge through the garbage autonomously. A fairy with the evil trait will get wishes to play pranks on other Sims much more often.

21 – Is the Alchemy skill varied enough that it takes a while to master, unlike say the Chemistry Set, that It [Alchemy] will in fact, be more akin to say Nectar making (A trial and error system)?
Answer – The Alchemy skill has a lot of depth and variation! Not only will you have a visible 10 level skill to master, you’ll need to research recipes and buy recipe books for the 40+ Elixir Recipes. And don’t forget that you’ll need to go out and find the ingredients to make each of these alchemical concoctions, which is a lot of fun for players who love gardening, or collecting bugs and gems. If that isn’t enough, players can become a self-employed alchemist and make simoleons from elixirs.

22 – How will the acquirement of the Alchemy and Magical items be done? Is it all in Build/Buy mode, or Do you get a mysterious package, or purchase it from a shop in town?
Answer – Alchemy is driven from the Alchemy Station, which is purchasable in Buy Mode. Most of our magical items are available in Buy Mode as well. Witches are a little special (and we’ll talk about that more later), but even they have some wand options in Buy Mode. We do have a special new shop in town that you can purchase elixirs and other items from – you’ll also see more on that in the future.

23 – I remember reading about broom-riding arenas; will those be a new venue?
Answer – Broom riding is possible and we have some surprises in store related to were broom riding can occur, however, I don’t want to give all the exciting details away just yet. We have a more in-depth look at this coming very soon!

Heya, Simmers! I’ll admit that I’m better at twitter (@SimGuruMegan), but I’m doing my best to be available on the forums as well!
I’ve grabbed a few of your questions from this forum, and here are some answers!

1. Are witches stuck in the same witches clothing or will they wear anything?
No! Witches can wear anything they want, though we do have some fun new witchy looking clothes if you’re so inclined.

3. Will the beekeeping be similar to Sims 1 where we get honey and bees wax? I assume it will.
Yes! You can get honey and wax from your bees if you’re very nice to them.

4. will brooms be a general mode of transportation or just linked to a certain building
Brooms are the prefered transportation method for witches and wannabe witches.

5. Pumpkins? Pumpkin Pie? Carve-able Jack O’ Lanterns
No. Sorry, pumpkins aren’t one of our new harvestables, but we do have new ones!

6. Can Townies or your sims chase monsters with torches and pitchforks (that would be fun)
Ummmm. That sounds kind of mean!

7. More info about the Peashooter, please!
The Peashooter will be a build/buy object that you can place on your lot, not an inventory object. (I can try to answer more questions about this. Let me know what you guys are wondering.)

8. Broken, shuttered, boarded up, or stained glass windows, Big scary doors?
We do have some of these!

9. We have claws will we be able to design fingernails in CAS?
SimGuruBritt says “technically, yes.”

10. Children supernaturals???
Of course! They’re my favorite!

Hey Simmers!

I just wanted to answer a few quick questions:

Q: Now all I need to know is if you can give ANY Sim pointed ears and not just Supernaturals.
A: Yes! The new CAS sliders are available for normal Sims as well as Supernaturals.

Q: Could some one ask if the Rocking chair is functional as a rocker that would have me over the moon
A: Yes! Your Sims will have the option to rock in the chair should they so choose.

Q: I should asked this before, can Sims hold their infants/toddlers and rock in the chair? You know, soothe the fussy baby?
A: YES! You can rock your babies to sleep as well as read books while rocking in the rocking chair!!!

1. How exactly does the Lycanthropy skill work? How do you work it up, and how does it help you?
Answer – The Lycanthropy skill levels up behind the scenes. This happens automatically, when you do virtually anything as a werewolf. Your quickest path to a high Lycanthropy skill is to send your werewolf out on lots of hunts. There are many benefits to a higher Lycanthropy skill. A couple of the most powerful are the ability to perform Cursed Bites and spread the werewolf curse, along with the ability to hunt for specific collectibles.

2. IGN mentioned that werewolves could choose to be a “protector” of other Sims who don’t want to be turned. Can you explain more on how that works?
Answer – While not specific to just the werewolf, supernatural Sims can offer to protect other Sims. This enters them into a Protector / Protected relationship. From that point forward, the Protected Sim will feel safer, less afraid, and have the ability to call the Protector to come to their rescue.

3. Will a werewolf toddler transform on the full moon?
Answer – Werewolf toddlers do not transform, but they can scratch, howl and practice hunting.

4. Is it only collectibles that werewolves can hunt?
Answer – Yes, werewolves only hunt for gems, metals and insects.

5. Can a pregnant Werewolf still transform?
Answer – Werewolf Sims cannot transform while they’re pregnant.

6. If you can make werewolves look more like wolves (hairy face too)?
Answer – Absolutely, in Create A Sim you have the ability to customize the look of your transformed werewolf. Here are a few of the things you can control:
• Adjust skin tone
• Select body hair and body hair color
• New adjustments to nose shape
• New adjustments to ear shape
• Create a snarl
• Create an under-bite
