The Sims 3 Generations lessons

Punishment

Young Sims can now be punished for causing trouble around the house and throughout their neighborhood. Fighting with their siblings, missing school, and pulling pranks are just a few of the things that can get a Sim in trouble with their parents.

Troublemakers will be scolded by an adult for most offenses, but the more trouble a Sim causes, the more severe the punishment will be. Disobedient Sims can be banned from playing with their favorite toys, put on timeouts, or even grounded for the highest of offenses.

To get back into the good graces of their parents or guardians, mischief-makers can help out around the house doing chores or even beg for forgiveness!

Imaginary Friend

When your Sims have a child, sometimes their newborn will receive a special toy in the mail. When the child ages to a toddler, they can play, sing, and name their toy. All of these will improve their relationship with their special friend.

As your Sim begins to grow, their special friend can grow with them as well! The special toy can turn into a life-sized Imaginary Friend that only the owner Sim can see and interact with.

Do you wish other Sims could interact with the Imaginary Friend? Imaginary Friends can be turned real through opportunities or by creating the Imaginary Friend Metamorphium potion on the Catalyst Chemistry Lab Station. Sims need a good relationship with their Imaginary Friend to make them real, so be sure to be nice to them!

Prom

One of the most memorable moments in a teenager’s life is attending Prom. When Prom season rolls around, Teen Sims will get an invite with the date and time of their school’s annual dance.

Contemplating going stag or with a date? Well, there is a good chance that a friend will ask your Sim to Prom. Or, if your Sim is feeling brave, they can Ask a secret crush to Prom!

When the big day arrives, Sims will get a friendly reminder that they only have a couple hours to put on their designer duds before the limo arrives! When a Sim shows up at the dance, they will strike a pose for the camera. The Prom Photo will appear in their inventory as a keepsake.

While they are at Prom, Sims can tear up the dance floor or even reign as Prom Queen or King. Sims that get elected to the Prom Court will receive a special object in their inventory. Some unfortunate Sims can run into trouble at Prom, such as getting in a fight, getting ditched by their date, or getting denied on the dance floor.

Pranks and Booby Traps

Child and Teen Sims can now pull pranks and set traps for unsuspecting Sims at home and out around town. Different objects around the house and different places around town allow for a variety of different traps and pranks for your Sim’s enjoyment.

On a Residential Lot, Child and Teen Sims can set traps on different household objects and appliances. Try clicking on different objects to see what traps your prankster Sim can set!

Around town, children and teenagers can play pranks on members of the community at different public locations as well as at their neighbor’s homes. Try clicking on the doorstep of your Sim’s neighbor to get started!

Daycare

Nurturing or Family-Oriented Sims should check out the new Daycare profession, which allows them to care for the neighborhood’s bundles of joy. This profession can be found on the newspaper or computer.

Every weekday, several toddlers will be dropped off in the morning and will stay until their parents pick them up in the evening. Buy some toys to keep them busy and happy. Make sure to feed, change and play with them, especially when their motives are low. Happy kids will lead to happy tips and rewards!

The better the Daycare specialist, the more kids (and money) will show up, including school age children coming by for after school care. They’ll need to get their homework done to get the best rating.

With crises such as Emergency Weekend Daycare and Problem Children, true Daycare Dynamos will have their hands full. Be sure to use the unlocked socials and rewards to keep the kids in line, and don’t be afraid to bring in some help!

Boarding Schools

Boarding Schools offer a unique educational experience for Child and Teen Sims if their parents are willing to take on the tuition cost. There are five types of Boarding Schools available, each of which train students in different skills and advocate certain Traits.

Adult Sims can enroll their offspring in Boarding School from the computer or the phone. Once a Sim is enrolled in Boarding School, a car will come to pick them up. Don’t worry about children that are away at school; they are safe and receiving a quality education.

Children and teens enrolled in Boarding School will occasionally call home to catch up with their family. If your Sims miss their children too much, they can also call them to chat or remove them from Boarding School using the phone or computer.

Sims can age up while they are away at school. When this happens, your Sim will get their final marks from their school. Sims that want to remain in Boarding School will need to be enrolled again. Sims that choose not to continue their Boarding School education will come home with new skills and traits depending upon which school they were enrolled in.

When a Teen at Boarding School ages up, they will come home for graduation and receive their final marks. When a Sim graduates, they will spin into their cap and gown and attend the Graduation ceremony at City Hall with their family members. Sims that graduate from Boarding School have a special greeting and a new social to talk about their school.

Midlife Crisis

Faced with the responsibility of becoming an Adult, your Sim may enter a Midlife Crisis on their birthday. While your Sim is going through a Midlife Crisis, they can complete special wishes that help them cling to their youth and earn extra Lifetime Happiness points as they enter the later stages of life.

Unlike normal wishes, once a Midlife Crisis wish is promised to a Sim, it cannot be canceled. These wishes will last until they are fulfilled or the Midlife Crisis ends. When a Sim has promised a Midlife Crisis wish, they will take a negative mood hit until it is completed.

If a Sim successfully completes their crisis, they will be rewarded with bonus Lifetime Happiness points and a positive moodlet based upon how many Midlife Crisis wishes they completed.

There is no penalty for avoiding the Midlife Crisis wishes if you choose not to promise them to your Sim. Alternatively, if the pressure of going over the hill gets to be too much, you may send your Sim to the local hospital to get therapy and end their crisis early.

Chemistry Creations

Sims can create a variety of potions and increase their Logic skill using the Catalyst Chemistry Lab Station. Your Sim can research formulas for new potions using Discover Potion. Sims can then Make that Potion whenever they like using the Lab Station. Anytime a Sim makes or discovers a potion, it can be found in the Sim’s inventory.

There are many potions to discover, such as the Ninja Vanish Potion, which teleports Sims home instantly, or the Ghost Potion, which lets Sims spend some time on the other side! Other helpful potions include a Mood Enhancer that bring happiness and the Radical Reparium potion that gives Sims an instant Handiness Skill boost.

Sims who are adept in the Logic Skill can Mix Potions into Drinks. This creates a Mysterious Drink that looks like a glass of water, but causes any Sim who drinks it to undergo the same effects as the mixed in Potion. Leave a Mysterious Drink on the counter or put it in the fridge and watch as other Sims unknowingly ingest the potion. Hijinks are sure to ensue!

Video Cameras

Sims now have the ability to record home videos and play them back on televisions in-game. To get started, purchase a Video Camera in Buy Mode.

The type of video camera you purchase will affect the length of video that you’re able to record and the quality of the video playback when watching it on a television. Spending some extra Simoleons is a great investment for the serious videophile!

When you’re ready to record, use the video camera to enter a special first person view to capture your shot. Follow the on-screen instructions to move throughout the world while you shoot. The timer will countdown the amount of remaining time that you can record before the camera automatically shuts off.

Once a recording is completed, a disc will be placed in your Sim’s inventory that can be played on higher-end televisions. You may rename the disc to help distinguish your unique videos. To organize your inventory, you can purchase a Data Disc Storage Tower, which can hold all of your discs for instant playback.

Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties

Bachelor and Bachelorette parties are only available to Sims who are currently Engaged to another Sim. To throw a Bachelor/Bachelorette party, use the cell phone in your Sim’s inventory and select “Throw Party.”

Use the party type selector to choose Bachelor/Bachelorette Party, select the time that the party should start, and select which friends are invited. Only Young Adult and older Sims are allowed to attend Bachelor/Bachelorette parties.

Once the party has begun, ask a good friend to kick off the party by Making a Toast. Look out for party dancers as well; some of your friends may or may not have invited them to take the party up a notch!
